The Future Voice of JazzOn March 31, 2026, the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz announced in Washington, D.C., and Paris that its International Jazz Vocal Competition will take place in Paris, France. It will be the first edition held outside the United States, reflecting jazz’s continued growth around the world.A Platform for Young Talent

The competition gives musicians aged 30 and under a platform to showcase their talent. More than $100,000 in scholarships and prizes will encourage young singers to take part, including a $50,000 first prize presented by the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The event will be held at the foundation’s auditorium and include semifinals, a final, and an All-Star concert, attracting attention from around the world.

An All-Star Jury

The jury will be led by acclaimed singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, a member of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz. Other judges include internationally recognized artists Jazzmeia Horn and Jane Monheit. The panel brings together leading figures in jazz and influential voices in today’s music world.

The Power of the Human Voice

Herbie Hancock said, “The human voice is the first instrument, and it can communicate directly with listeners and tell moving stories.” The competition is about more than musical skill; it is also an exchange of emotion.

A Distinguished History and a Bright Future

Past editions have helped launch the careers of many outstanding artists, including saxophonist Joshua Redman and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. Through this competition, the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz hopes to nurture a new generation of jazz musicians and carry this art form forward.

Watch Worldwide

The 2026 International Jazz Vocal Competition will be streamed worldwide on Medici.tv, FLVPlay, and YouTube so jazz fans everywhere can experience the event.

The Next Generation of Jazz Stars

As part of a global music education initiative, the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz works with UNESCO to promote jazz culture. Applications for the 2026 International Jazz Vocal Competition are now open; all materials must be submitted by July 15, 2026.
