John Patitucci A Masterful Jazz Bassist
—— “One for brian” [live version]
John Patitucci

Three-time Grammy winner and a key member of the Chick Corea and Wayne Shorter Quartets, as well as a visiting scholar at Berklee’s Global Jazz Institute. Across a four-decade career spanning jazz, classical and funk, his bass playing combines rigorous architecture with deep feeling, forming a steady yet supple rhythmic foundation for the trio.

Chris Potter A Leading Saxophonist of His Generation

A versatile modern saxophone master, two-time recipient of Denmark’s Jazzpar Prize and the Jazz Journalists Association’s Saxophonist of the Year. His exceptional technique and improvisational imagination span traditional jazz and contemporary fusion. His solos combine explosive brilliance with fine-grained storytelling, making him the trio’s melodic voice.

Brian Blade

A Spiritual Drumming Legend and Thinker in Modern Jazz Rhythm

A multiple Grammy winner for Best Jazz Instrumental Album and a core member of the Wayne Shorter Quartet. His intricate, fluid and emotionally rich drumming conveys profound ideas through spare expression. Widely regarded as one of the most influential drummers in modern jazz, he gives the trio an exceptional sense of breath and spiritual tension.

John Patitucci and Brian Blade have beencore members of the legendary Wayne Shorter Quartetfor more than two decades, developing an almost telepathic musical rapport. Chris Potter’s connection with them dates back to John’s early years with Concord Records; they share a close friendship and a strong artistic affinity.

With Wayne Shorter in Europe circa 2003

The trio began its first tour in Italy in 2021, performing in theaters and at festivals in cities including Bologna and Genoa, and recording the live album Live in Italy, which established its artistic identity. In 2024–25, the group toured Germany, France, Spain and other European countries; critics hailed its improvisations as“a textbook example of a trio”. The trio released the studio album Spirit Fall in 2025, affirming its place among the leading acts in contemporary jazz.

This time, the trio will perform Spirit Fall in China for the first time, with a program spanning original compositions, reimagined classics and free-flowing improvisation:
· Original highlights: High-energy “Think Fast,” blues-inflected “Deluge on 7th Ave” and the reflective “Thoughts and Dreams” showcase the trio’s compositional range;
· Reimagined classics: Charlie Parker’s “Visa,” Wayne Shorter’s “House of Jade” and the standard “Without a Song” are recast through the musicians’ own perspective;
· Improvisational high point: An unscripted musical conversation with no conductor or preset plan, in which bass, saxophone and drums can each take the lead—every moment a unique creation.
