Guitarist Marc Ribot and his quartet will release Hurry Red Telephone on Pi Recordings on October 30, 2026. The all-instrumental album continues his collaboration with drummer Chad Taylor and brings together saxophone and bass players in different configurations.
The album features two groups of musicians: James Brandon Lewis, Brian Settles, and Hilliard Greene appear on one set, while Briggan Krauss and Sebastian Steinberg play on another. Along with four original compositions by Ribot, the album includes two works by Haitian guitarist and composer Frantz Casséus, Ribot’s former guitar teacher and a lasting influence on his music.
According to the label, Hurry Red Telephone is Ribot’s first all-instrumental album since 2014’s Live at the Village Vanguard. Built around the quartet format, the music brings free jazz together with Ribot’s long-standing engagement with styles such as no wave.
The quartet takes its name from poet Richard Siken’s work Several Tremendous. Ribot continues to explore the relationship between composition and improvisation, while offering a fresh interpretation of Casséus’s music.
