[ スガダイロー Suga Dairo | Piano, Composer ]
Suga Dairo is a pianist and composer from Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture. He studied classical piano from childhood, then entered the jazz program at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, where he studied with Yosuke Yamashita, before graduating from Berklee College of Music in the United States. After returning to Japan, he performed with bands such as Shibusashirazu and Isao Suzuki’s OMA SOUND. In 2008, he released his first album as a leader, Portrait of Suga Dairo.
Since then, he has led his own trio and collaborated widely with artists across disciplines, including Jason Moran, Tatsuya Nakamura, Akira Sakata, Min Tanaka and Sibitt. His explosive improvisations and deep musical conversations have earned wide acclaim. He has also worked as a stage-music director, composed for film and television, and collaborated with novelist Natsuhiko Kyogoku.
His playing is known for astonishing speed and intensity, while also revealing a delicate, lyrical tone and a minimalist side. This remarkable range continues to challenge and expand the possibilities of improvised music.
In 2025, he released three new works: the solo piano album Eye Listening, Ear Seeing; his band Garaku’s debut album, Something Like This; and a duo project with Tatsuya Nakamura’s group Akazangetsu, the album Sakura-za Monster.
[ Minyen Hsieh | Saxophone, Composer ]
Do not let his modest manner fool you: Minyen Hsieh is one of the boldest figures in Taiwan’s music scene today. He holds a master’s degree and postgraduate diploma in jazz saxophone performance from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. After returning to Taiwan in summer 2011, he won the 2012 Taichung International Saxophone Competition. Since releasing his debut solo album Firry Path in 2014, he has continued to explore new territory, moving between styles with a chameleon-like ability to find exactly the right sound for each ensemble. He has appeared on more than a dozen jazz albums, earning two Golden Melody Awards and seven Golden Indie Music Awards. He has also contributed to more than 100 works across independent, experimental, film, television and pop music. His cross-disciplinary invitations include performing “Xin Chuan” at the 2017 Taipei Universiade closing ceremony and taking part in contemporary opera and musical productions such as Tian Zhong Sha (2023) and Winter Journey Before the End of the World (2025).Xin Chuan and other productions,Tian Zhong Sha》、2025《Winter Journey Before the End of the World.
His latest release is a 2025 collaboration with Japanese free-jazz legends Hiroshi Yamazaki, Yoshihide Otomo and others, Punctum Visus – Perspective, which has been well received in Taiwan and Japan and received two nominations at the 16th Golden Indie Music Awards. Other collaborative releases from the same year include Melodies, Sounds of Taiwan, Live Without Irony and melodies》、《Sounds of Taiwan》、《Live Without Irony》、《Hot Mess.
